I work with San Francisco public school youth from grade school to middle school in a variety of mediums from printing to textile arts to book making. We explore different materials and mediums and make connections to historical and indigenous practices. When it’s possible I exhibit my student’s work at professional gallery settings and this year we had relief prints from 1st graders exhibited at SF Arts Ed Project gallery depicting traditions from their multicultural heritages. In addition my 4rth grade students printed lego relief prints inspired by letterpress and collaborated with 826 Valencia’s writing workshop students; the result culminated in shows at Minnesota St. Project and at the 826 Valencia site.

Currently I am working with artist Tiersa Nureyev at Minnesota St. Projects on her large scale community quilt project “Soft Spaces for Hard Times” to engage youth and the public to partake and to reflect on the textile connections to warmth and safety in the face of isolation and pandemic anxiety.
