Jeanette Au is an interdisciplinary artist, knitwear designer and educator in San Francisco. She was raised in the Lower East Side of New York City and trained in painting and drawing at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art and the Performing Arts. She holds a BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the San Francisco Art Institute and a MFA in Knitwear Design from the Academy of Art University. She has presented her knitwear collection in Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week and has worked for local knitwear companies.
Ms. Au has mentored BFA fashion students at Academy of Art University and California College of Art as well as provided textile arts and visual arts instruction in San Francisco public and private schools and nonprofits organizations. She also designs costumes for local Bay Area youth theater.
Jeanette Au's artistic practice includes analog photo processes, textile construction, printing, letterpress, book arts and ceramics, transgressing the boundaries between fashion, craft and fine art while exploring cross-cultural dialogues and liminal spaces. She is interested in engaging communities and promoting material literacy in addition to exploring material and techniques to forge unexpected results.
